DIR-Floortime

Private Developmental Therapy

Floortime is a parent coaching-based support that focuses on relationships and joy!

DIRFloortime® is recognized as a leading evidence-based approach to helping individuals on the autism spectrum and others with neurodevelopmental differences flourish. Floortime is joining others in their interests to respectfully and playfully support their individual development through shared, joyful, and spontaneous interactions.

The DIR® methodology, proceeds from the core belief that relationships are the foundation of learning.

The acronym DIR stands for “Developmental, Individual-Difference, Relationship-based approach®

Development refers to functional and emotional milestones in a child’s development over time.
Individual Differences is based on the unique ways children process information. We must account for each child’s strengths and areas for growth.

Relationship-based refers to our understanding of the importance relationships play in a child’s development.

In conjunction with DIR® Principles, we use the ShakerSelf-Reg Framework to support families in regulating their stress. If your child isn’t able to engage within your family relationships and struggles to understand their emotions, it’s a signal that they need more co-regulation. That is, they aren’t yet able to self-regulate on a consistent basis. The best way to help a child process their feelings is through nurturing their body’s sense of calm and connection. It is important for us to show children how to understand what their body is telling them. Developing this awareness takes time but with support and parent-based coaching services, we can empower children to ask for a hug, take a short walk, or have a drink of water. We take each child’s individual differences into consideration to guide them to follow their body’s valuable signals. Self-Regulation is not a program, class, or mindfulness technique, it is a lifelong journey to peace! This same framework can be applied to parents and caregivers as well as neurotypical siblings.
